Besides the World Championships cross-country skiing trail, the medium-difficulty 4.9-km Kollingwald forest trail is ideal for ambitious cross-country skiers. It starts at the Nordic Park. Those who still have something left in the tank in the evening can tackle the 1.8-km cross-country skiing trail around the Ritzensee lake or the Griessen high-altitude trail on cross-country skis, which is floodlit until 10 pm. As Austria's top cross-country skiing destination, Saalfelden Leogang promotes young talent A centre for Nordic skiing will be built at two locations in Saalfelden by 2024. This runs along Ritzensee lake and then leads through the magical winter landscape of the nearby Kollingwald forest. The 7.1-kilometre Lettingrunde circuit is significantly shorter, but just as delightful. And if you just have half an hour to spare for a walk, we recommend the path around Ritzensee lake. All three routes take you past the new woodland swing in Kollingwald forest at Ritzensee lake. This is an ideal opportunity to take a seat, relax, relish the peace and quiet of the forest and simply enjoy a different perspective for once: The woodland swing resembles a wooden hammock. Lying in the woodland swing, gaze up at the treetops above. There's no better way to forget everyday stresses and strains. For this reason, it is important to protect this resting place and treat it with respect. In Saalfelden Leogang, we have established "fair play rules" for the winter forest environment. These guidelines include, for example, rubbish and noise prevention in the forest. Forest visitors should absolutely remain on marked trails and routes, be fully outfitted with safety gear, and observe wildlife quiet zones. It extents 1,600 metres above the treetops and reaches a speed of up to 130 kilometres per hour. Take advantage of adventurous winter hiking and the WINTER adventure programme Many of the paths in Saalfelden Leogang are cleared, which means you can easily stroll through the snow for miles with sturdy shoes. Why not try the 11.8-kilometre Haidrunde circuit? This runs along Ritzensee lake and then leads through the magical winter landscape of the nearby Kollingwald forest. The 7.1-kilometre Lettingrunde circuit is significantly shorter, but just as delightful. And if you just have half an hour to spare for a walk, we recommend the path around Ritzensee lake. All three routes take you past the new woodland swing in Kollingwald forest at Ritzensee lake. It’s an ideal opportunity to take a seat, relax and enjoy the silence of the forest. Away from the slopes, you can also explore the beautiful winter landscape in Saalfelden Leogang on your own this winter season. From 27 November 2021 to 3 April 2022, there are guided snowshoe and winter hikes, torchlight hikes, ski tours, horse-drawn sleigh rides and cross-country skiing taster courses. Those wishing to take part in an event need to register with the relevant providers by 4 pm on the day prior. For those with the Saalfelden Leogang Card, participation is often free. Sustainability on and off the slopes Sustainability and skiing – can the two go together? At Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn we continue to implement initiatives to make this combination possible. It is therefore fitting, for example, that the Leoganger Bergbahnen cable car company has been drawing district heating from the nearby biomass heating plant since 2006. This includes a co-heating partnership with neighbouring hotels. A nearby restaurant is heated via heat recovered from the drive motors of the Asitzbahn cable car middle station. In addition, the floors at the workshop where the snow grooming machines are serviced are heated to defrost the grooming machines during the day, as is the floor in the access area for skiers ascending from the middle station. Furthermore, the snow cannons and cable car systems have been hydraulically and electrically optimised to increase their efficiency. "These measures have enabled us to massively reduce our energy consumption," says Kornel Grundner, managing director of Leoganger Bergbahnen. "The Steinbergbahn gondola lift now consumes around 151,000 kilowatt hours less per year. The efforts have been recognised: Leoganger Bergbahnen was bestowed the "Umwelt Blatt Salzburg" sustainability award in 2017 and credited by the Austrian Ministry of the Environment for its commitment to climate protection in 2018. In 2019, Leoganger Bergbahnen was also the first ski resort to become a partner of the "Climate and Energy Strategy Salzburg 2050." This means it's even more fun to explore the 140 km of blue runs, 112 km of red and 18 km of black runs, as well as the 60 homely mountain huts, the snow parks, freeride parks and floodlit pistes, the speed, racing and SkiMovie courses, and the funcross, snow trail and snow tubing facilities in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. Getting to Saalfelden Leogang is also easy, comfortable and above all sustainable. There are three train stations in the Saalfelden Leogang region, which are easy to reach from Munich, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt. Locally, holidaymakers can take advantage of the Saalfelden town bus and the ski bus free of charge with the Saalfelden Leogang Card. Austrian Ecolabel: The Saalfelden Leogang pilot partner region Want to enjoy a sustainable overnight stay? It’s possible in the Saalfelden Leogang region. In some hotels, great importance is attached to the topic of environmental protection and sustainability. For instance, electric cars are made available to guests. In-house biomass heating plants, wood chip heating systems and composting plants are used to provide energy and special attention is also paid to avoiding waste. Under the leadership of the Verein für Konsumenteninformation (Austrian consumer protection association), the Saalfelden Leogang region has been working towards a seal of approval certification for sustainable tourism regions along with other destinations since 2021. Many companies and businesses in Saalfelden Leogang have already been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel. This seal of approval evaluates a wide range of measures such as public transport, waste disposal and resource management. Saalfelden Leogang: A village of award-winning cuisine. A detour to "Stocki's Distillery” in Leogang, for example, is also worthwhile. It’s the only distillery in Austria with three qualified fine schnapps sommeliers and a master distiller. Distillery tours are held here every Tuesday and Thursday. There is even the possibility to visit the gourmet shop. The Misssi ice cream shop in Saalfelden has been open since the beginning of July. It features ice cream made from natural and regional ingredients. In other words, the milk is sourced from local cows and ingredients such as fruit, honey and nuts are sourced locally. Everything is free from flavour enhancers, colour additives or aromas. This local ice cream producer values supporting small farmers and their families and thus also promotes the sustainable cultivation of food. The name, Alpeneis (Alpine ice cream) pays tribute to its local origins. Those keen to enjoy ice cream in winter can visit the round-the-clock ice cream vending machine right in front of the ice cream shop. Selected ice cream varieties are also available here in family packs. This exceptional quality of the local produce is also mirrored in the region's gastronomy: With a total of 14 Gault Millau toques split between seven establishments, the richly diverse Saalfelden Leogang region is no stranger to exclusive dining. As the nativity scene exhibition is annual, a visit here is worthwhile at any time of the year. Famous nativity-scene builder Xandi Schläffer from Saalfelden, who designed the “Pinzgauer nativity scene villages” featuring the stable of Bethlehem at the centre and the Steinernes Meer plateau in the background, crafted many of the exhibited small works of art. The Mining and Gothic Museum in Leogang, which chronicles the heyday of mining in Leogang, is another worthwhile excursion tip. Since 2020, it now has its own library. During that year, the Mining and Gothic Museum in Leogang was one of 27 European museums nominated to be for the European Museum Award 2021. With plenty of social distancing, spending time in the open air, and a proper event concept, cultural enjoyment is still possible even during the coronavirus pandemic. Nowhere is this more true than in Saalfelden Leogang, a special place for those interested in culture that also boasts beautiful mountains and scenic Alpine pastures. This summer, the most contrast-rich region in the Alps is gearing up to offer a variety-rich music and cultural programme. In addition to the famous International Jazzfestival Saalfelden, there are also the all-new TONspur music-enjoyment islands, the VOLXOMMER theatre festival, the Kunsthaus Nexus, or the opportunity to gain an insight into the history of mining. The region’s annual customs will also make a return this year. Guests can expect a diverse mix of tradition and rural life from events like the summer solstice, Bauernherbst and the "Saalfeldner Holzmusi” wooden instrument bands. The International Jazzfestival featuring a diverse musical programme and plenty of variety Artists from around the world will once again transform Saalfelden into the most worthwhile music city in the mountains. The legendary International Jazzfestival will take place in the third week of August. From 16-22 August 2021, world-renowned and domestic jazz musicians, as well as newcomers, will take the stages to the delight of concert-goers. The selection of jazz styles that can be enjoyed at around 60 concert events is both broad and varied. Artists such as Anna Högberg, KUU!, the Kaja Draksler Octet and Chuffdrone will perform on various stages. There are also outdoor concerts, both in the mountains and at the Nexus, as well as musical walks and even bike tours. The city park will be transformed into a huge outdoor stage and domestic as well as international acts will perform on the stage at the Congress Saalfelden. Visitors can attend the concerts with prior registration. Best of all, half of the concerts are free of charge! So that the event can take place as planned according to the current status quo this year, a comprehensive safety concept including hygiene measures is available. Naturkino natural spectacles and TONspur islands: 365 days of music enjoyment in nature The Saalfelden Leogang region also boasts an extensive outdoor cultural programme. Experience nature, sharpen your senses and enjoy culture at the same time: it’s all possible at the Asitz in Leogang. "Sit down, relax and take a break from everyday life" is the motto of the unique relaxation area boasting panoramic views. On different plateaus, cosy wooden lounger islands and hammocks have been set up. Hikers can reach this special spectacle via the Asitzbahn or Steinbergbahn gondola lifts, or via Leo's Spielewanderweg and the Grosser Asitz mountain. During your hike, you’ll pass by the five TONspur islands, which were completed in 2020. These stations, where you can listen to live recordings of the TONspur concerts from the previous year, are located along the hiking trail between the mountain station and the Asitz summit and are especially popular with true music fans. These TONspur islands consist of wooden loungers that offer the possibility to experience nature even more intensely. The right way to set them up depends upon the prevailing weather conditions: when it is sunny, the loungers can be pulled out of the covered station by means of rollers; when the weather is poor, there is a canopy. Four of the five islands were specifically placed to face each cardinal direction. The fifth island is located in a quiet place in the middle of the forest. During construction, an excellent sound system, visual details and a good sense for the surrounding natural environment were equally important factors. The result: Pure music enjoyment in the great outdoors, 365 days a year. This fantastic outdoor attraction is so indescribably beautiful that the TONspur Islands were even awarded the MAECENAS Austrian Art Sponsorship Prize in 2020. In 2021, the popular TONspur concerts will take place once again on the Asitz from 1 July to 19 August. On five special Thursdays in summer, bands and musicians of different genres will perform on stage against a breathtaking mountain backdrop. When the weather is good, you can enjoy concerts at sunset on an outdoor stage at the foot of the Grosser Asitz. When the weather is sub-optimal, you are invited to the Asitz Bräu. The Mnozil Brass brass ensemble, Angelika Kirschlager & Pianist, Marianne Mendt & Band, as well as Kapelle So&So and the Octet of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra will all be performing this year. VOLXOMMER Theatre Festival: Performances for kids, teenagers and adults Theatre productions and dance performances also play a significant role in Saalfelden Leogang. The VOLXOMMER theatre festival will celebrate its 5th anniversary in 2021. From 26 July to 15 August 2021, concert-goers can expect a varied cultural programme in Saalfelden, Leogang and Lofer under the motto "Diversity rather than uniformity." The colourful programme includes workshops, plays for children, young people and adults, circus and dance performances, as well as audience discussions and concerts. The event was created in 2014 by the Freiraum cultural association and the ecce theatre. The Kunsthaus Nexus featuring numerous art and cultural events The Kunsthaus Nexus was opened in 2002 and has been an important part of the Pinzgau art and culture scene ever since. Visitors can expect a variety-rich programme featuring plenty of jazz, blues, rock and metal concerts, a Gschnagga theatre for kids, club events and band contests, an art-house cinema and numerous literary lectures and cabarets. Show mine: go in search of minerals at an artificial gallery Keen to learn more about mining? Then check out the Leogang show mine! First opened in 1989, it covers the history of mining dating back to the 14th century. Under the guidance of well-trained guides, guests travel through the ramified mine. Travelling at times in single file with the need to stoop down occasionally, this adventurous journey through narrow tunnels leads guests directly into the past and provides an insight into the hard work that miners once performed while extracting silver, copper, nickel, lead, cobalt and mercury. Starting this year, an old railroad that once carried both miners and mined treasures now offers younger visitors the opportunity to better get to know the mine by means of an artificial gallery. The cosy miners' pub is the best way to round off an eventful visit to the show mine. Here you can enjoy the local cuisine, peruse interesting mine maps, or purchase a mining souvenir. Guided tours are offered from May to October. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are required. Mining and Gothic Museum and Schloss Ritzen Museum: minerals and nativity scenes The Mining and Gothic Museum in Leogang is a special destination. The exhibition provides an insight into the heyday of mining in Leogang. The silver ore was mined for the famous Salzburg ‘Silbertaler’ silver dollar. In addition, copper, cobalt, nickel, mercury and lead were also mined. Rare mineral species can also be admired in the mineral cabinet. The museum also houses sacred art, such as the "Beautiful Madonna", a Gothic figure of a saint from the Alpine region, which was made as early as 1410. Since 2020, the museum building know has its very own library. Additionally, this year you can also visit the special exhibition “Pinzgau cattle - a state cultural asset,” which was designed by Stefan Gimpl. It provides insights into the regional and cultural significance of cattle breeding. This year, the Mining and Gothic Museum in Leogang is one of 27 European museums nominated to be for the European Museum Award 2021. The award ceremony will take place at the beginning of May. The Saalfelden Leogang region is surrounded by four noble castles. One of these is Schloss Ritzen castle, which also houses a museum containing Austria's most important and largest collection of nativity scenes as well as other sacred treasures. In addition to the baroque church nativity scene, there is also a large oriental nativity scene and the Saalfelden nativity scene by the famous nativity scene builder Alexander "Xandi" Schläffer from Saalfelden. In earlier times, the castle was known as "Grub bei Saalfelden." In 1603, the castle complex came under the ownership of Freien Haimeram von Ritz, for whom this magnificent building was then named. From 1968 onwards, the municipality of Saalfelden became responsible for the care of the preservation of the castle complex. The Schloss Ritzen Museum features permanent exhibitions such as nativity scene exhibitions, Roman frescoes that present a collection of Roman wall paintings, as well as exhibitions on the history of Saalfelden, which can be visited all year round. Hermitage: An idyllic hiking trail featuring wonderful views of the Leogang mountains At 1,006 metres above sea level, the hermitage is also often referred to as the "resting place of the soul." As one of the last inhabited hermitages in Europe it was built in the 17th century in the rocky outcroppings above Schloss Lichtenberg castle. The property also houses a small chapel. A hiking trail, which is accessible for the entire family, leads up to the hermitage. Once you have reached the top, you will be rewarded by magnificent views of Saalfelden and the Leogang mountains as well as the Steinernes Meer plateau. Summer solstice: A mystical Alpine spectacle featuring glimmering mountain fires Customs and traditions are very important in the Saalfelden Leogang region. On 19 June, for instance, fires will be lit on the Pinzgau mountains to mark the summer solstice, a tradition dating back to early Christian times. Fire is said to replicate and invoke sunlight to drive away evil spirits, which in turn ensures sufficient growth and fertility for the the fields and meadows. On the evening of 19 June 2021, the contours of the Leoganger Steinberge mountain range and the Steinernes Meer plateau will be ignited to reveal impressive symbols and shapes on the mountain slopes. Bauernherbst events, traditional costumes, creative shop and the "Saalfeldner Holzmusi” wooden instrument bands Bauernherbst begins at the end of August and is the Saalfelden Leogang region’s fifth season. During this time, the focus is on good food, enjoyment and the seasonal harvest that has been brought forth. During the Bauernherbst events, guests have the opportunity to better get to know traditional rural life with handicraft demonstrations, hikes, cooking courses, harvest festivals, traditional cattle herding to the Alpine pasture and traditional events. At each event, sufficient safety concepts and hygiene measures are in place. Keen to wear the right outfit for every traditional occasion? Dirndls are handmade here by Regina Wienerroither, a seamstress who has been working at the workshop for more than 30 years. She is also the inventor of the Stretch Dirndl, a unique dirndl made from fabrics with a stretchable component made from Loden felt, linen and printed cotton. Meanwhile, the Leogang Kreativ-Laden (creative shop) is the perfect place to pick out a unique souvenir for the relatives at home. There are handmade wooden works of art and a beautiful garden, which can also be visited in the summer as part of a guided tour. The 740 square metre site is the ideal place to get inspiration for your own home. Products made of Swiss stone pine are also produced in the creative shop. These unique products contribute to a better interior air climate and have beneficial effects on health. The "Saalfeldner Holzmusi," which perform at traditional festivals and weddings, are a special musical experience. Here musical instruments exclusively made from wood are played, which are supposed to represent mythical creatures and animals. The musicians perform, for example, with wooden instruments shaped like snakes and dragons. The performers are dressed in leather knee breeches with light blue socks, a red waistcoat and a black hat complete with red and white feathers. The artists play traditional folk music and do not need sheet music. By ear and feeling, music is created by beating, plucking and rattling the instruments. Direct sales outlet: rich products to enjoy on site and at home In the Saalfelden Leogang region, there are many farms that market their products directly. Enjoyment on site as well as the opportunity to take home a culinary souvenir as a valuable holiday memory are the top priorities. In addition to eggs, bread, cheese and milk, there are also schnapps and spirits as well as alpaca and sheep’s wool products. At the Leogang village shop, for example, there is a large selection of Pinzgau delicacies including the ‘Leogang BIO’ sausage and meat products. The "Gerstbodner Troadladl," the farm shop at the Zieferhof, is also known for its milk and grain products. Also not to be missed: the HPH anno 1905, a village shop that was created at the site of a former horse stable and has already won several awards for its homemade butter. And who could forget the Stechaubauer organic farm? No matter the time of day or night, fresh organic vegetables are always available here. There’s also the Gemüsehütte (Vegetable Hut), a self-service vending machine where you select your vegetables via touchscreen and then pull them out from the appropriate tray. The best place to quench your thirst and your fondness for schnapps is the Kleinbrennerei Tribuser distillery. Here you can buy and taste fine spirits made from raspberries and rowan berries. A tour of the distillery is also a worthwhile pursuit. The sea buckthorn products, which are grown on site, are a true speciality. If you're in the mood for more high-proof spirits, you should also plan a tour stop at Herzog's schnapps distillery. Here, at one of Europe's most modern distilleries, Pinzgau gin and vodka are produced in addition to fine spirits.

With a full battery, it is possible to cycle for around 140 kilometres - even uphill and on extreme gradients. "Because nowadays it's no longer just older or less physically active tourists who want electric assistance," says Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Tourism. "Most cyclists use the e-bike to make longer, more substantial tours during a single day.” In Saalfelden Leogang, numerous routes invite you to make the most of an extended e-bike tour. Should the battery ever wear down, recharging is possible while enjoying a break at numerous e-bike charging stations, partner hotels, sports stores and even on Alpine pastures. In addition to the added fun and far easier biking, gourmet pleasure is yet another bonus, which is the concept behind an e-bike pleasure tour. The route starts at the Asitz valley station in Leogang and leads along the cycle path through the centre of Leogang and Saalfelden and then via Breitenbergham and Uttenhofen back to Leogang. The route is well suited for both e-bike professionals and beginners. During the 2.5 hour tour, be sure to stop at one of the many refreshment stops along the way. For example, there is a farm shop in a lovingly converted horse stable, a self-pick-up station for organic vegetables and a distillery that also produces gin and vodka, just to name a few! For a refreshing dip, it's best to jump into the Ritzensee lake. Hiking can be simply magical. Beyond the sporting challenge, exercise in the fresh air is linked to a host of sensory experiences and also contributes to physical and mental well-being. In Saalfelden Leogang, there are numerous hiking and running trails affording impressive views of the Steinernes Meer plateau and the Leoganger Steinberge mountains. For your next hiking tour, take advantage our “pole-sharing” programme. Along the way, take time to pause briefly and enjoy the silence of nature on a wrought-iron forest swing. Alternatively, take a load off at the Naturkino or TONspur rest & relaxation islands on the Asitz. No matter the time of year, pure musical enjoyment is available in the open air. There’s no better place than the Asitz mountain, also called the "Mountain of Senses," for families to discover the world together with all their senses. The ‘senses park’ and the guided themed walks are available for this purpose. And for those who want to travel up a bit higher, there are climbing routes and via ferratas in all degrees of difficulty and two climbing halls. "simply hiking:” featuring pole sharing, forest swings and plenty of peace and quiet In Saalfelden Leogang, the motto is "simply hiking" and, as the name suggests, its no more complicated than this! There’s nothing to this concept beyond just exercising in the fresh air. After all, it has been scientifically demonstrated that spending time in the great outdoors has a positive effect on health. "We want to avoid distractions and focus on what matters," says Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Tourism. "We want to encourage our guests to just start walking, to enjoy nature and to have fun. The focus is on hiking, pure and simple, as well as the ability to switch off from the concerns of everyday life." After all, the health benefits of hiking have been documented in countless studies. Dr. Arnulf Hartl from the Paracelsus Private Medical University in Salzburg, Austria, says: "It has been proven that hiking has positive effects on respiratory diseases, back problems and many other common ailments. We need nature. It's in our genes." In the Saalfelden Leogang region, hiking is in itself an experience. Here, smartphones stay where they belong: in the backpack or in the trouser pocket. This time around, instead of just admiring beautiful nature photos on your mobile phone, take the time to really enjoy the variety-rich trails and tours. This will allow you to experience nature up close and in a deeply relaxed manner. In addition to taking a relaxing time out in nature, the region’s practical infrastructure provides comfortable opportunities to rest along the way. The 360-degree wooden benches made by local craftsmen are a great example. So too are the wrought-iron forest swings. While relaxing on the swing and listening to the sounds of the forest, hikers can gaze up into the treetops and the sky. In contrast to a conventional bench, the 360-degree benches and forest swings allow visitors to change their perspective and discover many of the otherwise inconspicuous things in nature. After taking a break, simply continue hiking once your batteries are refreshed. The Saalfelden Leogang region is also making efforts in terms of sustainability. For example, there are now dedicated “pole-sharing stations,” i.e. natural wooden poles can be borrowed at the starting points of each trail and then returned back to their designated holders at the end of the hiking trail. For those keen to head out with their very own hiking pole, they are also available for purchase at the tourism association. Carefree hiking from place to place and without luggage On longer hiking trips, it's not uncommon to need a bit more luggage. The result, however, is that the backpack becomes larger and heavier. To ensure that hiking remains a great source of pleasure for the entire length of the journey, there is now a practical luggage transport service in Saalfelden Leogang. Hikers can set off with just a light daypack, while the larger piece of luggage is transported ahead to the next stage location in the meantime. To take advantage of this “hiking without luggage” service, the Saalachtaler Höhenweg and Saalachtaler Rundweg trails are available. The scenic Saalachtaler Höhenweg trail can be hiked within five days. Six nights, including luggage transfer, a hiking map and a hiking equipment kit (consisting of hiking pin, hiking pole, and hiking socks) are included. In addition, one ticket each for the cable car and downhill summer toboggan run are included. This fantastic offer is available from 616 EUR per person. The Saalachtal Rundweg between Saalfelden, Maishofen and Maria Alm can be explored within three or six days. Included in the package are four or seven nights in the desired category (depending on whether you choose the shorter or longer variant), the luggage transfer, and the hiking equipment. This offer is bookable from 278 EUR per person. A ticket for the journey up the mountain with the Huggenberg chairlift is also included. The respective offers are bookable from the end of May until the beginning of October by visiting: https://www.saalfelden-leogang.com/en/region-experience/hiking/hiking-without-luggage Contrast-rich climbing opportunities in the Steinberge mountain sports region Climbing fans should look no further than the Saalfelden Leogang holiday region, which features over 1,000 climbing routes and Alpine multi-pitches for beginners, advanced and experienced climbers. The Steinberge mountain-sports region boasts the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge mountain ranges, the Pillerseetal valley, the Saalachtal valley in Salzburg and the Steinplatte mountain. With 45 rope lengths, the “Pinzgawurm” is one of the longest climbing routes in the Northern Limestone Alps. Beyond the climbing routes, this mountain sports region boasts five climbing halls and twelve exciting via ferrata routes. At the "Felsenfest" climbing hall, one of the most modern and largest climbing gyms in Austria, Alpine climbers can hone their skills in the 1,700 square metre climbing area. The somewhat smaller and more laid-back PES climbing hall Leogang features an additional 50 m2 bouldering room. In contrast to outdoor climbing facilities, indoor climbing halls have one major advantage: they offer pure climbing pleasure at any time of year and can also be used in poor weather. Those keen to try out climbing for the first time should take advantage of the various climbing offers from May to November - also for families. A summer climbing tour can be combined with a stop at a traditional Alpine hut. Hearty and sweet delicacies await in the Passauerhütte, Riemannhaus and Peter-Wiechenthaler-Hütte mountain huts, among others. In addition, you can enjoy breathtaking views from the mountain hut terraces. Nature Cinema and TONspur islands for nature fans and culture lovers on the Asitz mountain Experience nature and sharpen your senses - it’s all possible on the Asitz mountain in Leogang. As of last summer, you can now enjoy the special relaxation are Nature Cinema with panoramic views at the top of the Sonnkogel mountain on the Asitz. This viewpoint area boasts long-ranging scenic views. The backdrop for the show is provided by the Leoganger Steinberge mountain range and the Steinernes Meer plateau. "Sit down, relax and take a break from everyday life" is the motto of the special relaxation area where visitors can enjoy relaxation islands and reflect on the here and now in special hammocks. In addition to pure relaxation, take in the impressive views of the Leoganger Steinberge mountain range and the Steinernes Meer plateau. Hikers can reach this special place via the Asitzbahn or Steinbergbahn gondola lifts, or via Leo's Spielewanderweg and the Grosser Asitz mountain. The five new TONspur islands that have been built along the hiking trail between the mountain station and the Asitz summit are yet another great attraction. They consist of wooden loungers that invite guests to linger and offer the opportunity to experience nature. At the five stations, visitors can listen to live recordings of the TONspur concerts from the previous year. Four of the five islands were specifically placed to face each cardinal direction. The fifth island is located in a quiet place in the middle of the forest. The wooden loungers were even mounted on rails and equipped with an appropriate sound system. The right way to set them up depends upon the prevailing weather conditions: to enjoy the sun, the loungers can be pulled out of the covered station by means of rollers, in bad weather the canopy protects against moisture. During construction, visual details and a good sense for the surrounding nature were equally important. As a result, it was possible to create a year-round experience for nature lovers. Depending on the weather, the concert is accessible in the open air or under the protection of the wooden structure, even in winter! This means 365 days a year of pure music enjoyment in nature. The effort involved in this concept was worth it: in 2020 the TONspuren Islands were even awarded the MAECENAS Austrian Art Sponsorship Prize. Family outing to the "Mountain of Senses:” Sinne Erlebnispark adventure park and “Silent Waters on the Asitz mountain" The Asitz is also home to a sensory park featuring 30 adventure stations, making it ideal for an adventurous outing with the whole family. At the middle station of the Leoganger Bergbahnen, immerse yourself in a world of senses. Here, sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch are put to the test. A walk without shoes through the soft Alpine landscape provides a soothing massage for the soles of your feet. Along the way, visitors perceive the scent of numerous wild herbs and Alpine plants. In addition, listening to the sounds of the forest helps sharpens the sense of hearing. By means of singing bowls, one can also feel the sound waves. At the sensory park, children can also engage in creative activities such as baking a flatbread, painting and crafting, or designing their own t-shirt. “Silent water” at the Asitz mountain features lounging chairs, panoramic terraces, Keipp area and a swimming platform in the Speichersee reservoir invite guests to relax and enjoy the view.
