Based in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg, Saalfelden Leogang is the most multi-faceted holiday region in the Alps – where limestone giants give way to gentle grass-covered mountains, rural atmosphere contrasts with urban lifestyle and tradition meets innovation.

Location

Saalfelden Leogang is located in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg, about 70 kilometres southwest of the city of Salzburg. The region is bordered by the Steinernes Meer plateau to the north, the Leoganger Steinberge mountains to the west, the Hochkönig massif to the east and the Kitzbühel Alps to the south. The most diverse environment in the Alps is home to a variety-rich adventure programme for every summer holiday: from long-distance hiking, mountain biking and climbing to endless cultural offers, outstanding hotels and luxurious wellness experiences. Saalfelden Leogang is home to one of Europe’s largest bike parks, the Epic Bikepark Leogang.

Journey: 

Saalfelden Leogang can easily be reached from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and the Czech Republic without a car thanks to excellent train connections. You can travel by train to the Saalfelden or Leogang stations. There are year-round connections to and from Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, Frankfurt, and Vienna. From Berlin, it takes around 7:30 hours with two changes, and from Munich, only 3 hours with one change. Direct connections are also available to Zurich (5:30 hours), Graz (4 hours), Innsbruck (2:15 hours), and Salzburg (1:45 hours).
Additionally, from January to April and from June to October, there is a direct connection to Saalfelden on weekends and public holidays with the ICE "Großglockner" from Hamburg via Hannover, Göttingen, Kassel, Fulda, Würzburg, Augsburg, and Munich.

If arriving by car, drive from Munich towards Salzburg on the motorway (A8) and take the Siegsdorf – Lofer – Saalfelden exit. 

Guests can also rent electric cars in the hotels. There are numerous E-charging stations throughout the region. Saalfelden Leogang is therefore also an ideal stop for an electric car road trip.

The nearest airport is Salzburg, 68 kilometers away. Munich Airport is about 190 kilometers away, and Innsbruck Airport is approximately 130 kilometers away.

For an Alpine destination, Saalfelden Leogang has a remarkable ratio of overnight stays by season: 52% of overnight stays are in summer and 48% in winter.
