“3 Days of Jazz” Saalfelden Leogang Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary
Three days, eleven concerts and a question at the heart of “3 Days of Jazz”: what happens when good music meets a place that is more than just a stage? From 22 to 24 January 2027, the festival returns to Saalfelden Leogang for its tenth year. The festival’s winter edition brings together the elements that have characterised “3 Days of Jazz” from the outset: international jazz, distinctive projects and venues that offer different perspectives on the music.
The venues are an integral part of the festival. The main venue is Kunsthaus Nexus in Saalfelden, which will host five concerts. Two further concerts will take place at the Museum of Mining and Gothic Art Leogang, while Saalfelden Parish Church will also become a concert venue. A free concert is once again planned for the Asitz mountain, surrounded by the winter landscape. Joining the festival’s venues for the anniversary edition is Museum Schloss Ritzen. As with the festival’s larger summer edition, the surroundings of Saalfelden Leogang are, in a sense, part of the music at “3 Days of Jazz”. A museum calls for a different kind of listening than a concert hall; a church changes the perception of sound, while on the mountain, the landscape itself becomes part of the concert experience.
International Artists and Austria’s Jazz Scene
Open to different musical approaches, the programme brings together influential international musicians and artists from Austria’s jazz scene.
Henri Texier is one of the musicians who, more than most, represents the history and distinctive character of European jazz. The French double bassist and composer will present his project “Healing Songs”.
Also on the programme is “Das Kapital”, featuring Daniel Erdmann on tenor saxophone, Hasse Poulsen on guitar and Edward Perraud on drums. The trio combines the freedom of jazz with influences from European musical traditions, rock and improvisation.
With her project “Nachtvogel”, Helene Glüxam focuses on musical reduction at the Museum of Mining and Gothic Art Leogang. The Viennese double bassist and composer contrasts the deep sound of her instrument with her high voice, creating music that moves between jazz, improvisation and song. Glüxam is one of Austria’s most promising emerging talents. She was selected for the NASOM programme for 2025/26 and recognised in the “Best Newcomer” category at the Austrian Jazz Award.
“Ramification”, by Flora Geißelbrecht and Jelena Popržan, also explores unusual instrumentation. Two violas and two voices form the basis for music that moves between jazz, folk, contemporary classical music and improvisation. Both musicians have classical training and work as composers and improvisers, expanding the possibilities of their instruments through experimental techniques. Popržan has been one of the most active figures on Austria’s music scene for years, while Geißelbrecht brings an equally individual musical approach.
Ten Years of “3 Days of Jazz” Saalfelden Leogang: A Space for Musical Freedom
The tenth anniversary of “3 Days of Jazz” is an opportunity to look ahead while staying true to the festival’s original spirit. The festival focuses on musicians who take risks, music that cannot always be easily categorised, and venues that change the way we listen. Internationally established artists meet younger figures from Austria’s jazz scene; composition encounters improvisation, and tradition meets the present.
The eleven concerts over three days, spread across Kunsthaus Nexus, Museum Schloss Ritzen, the Museum of Mining and Gothic Art Leogang, Saalfelden Parish Church and the Asitz mountain, do not aim to provide a comprehensive picture of jazz. Rather than attempting to define jazz, the festival offers space for musical exploration and new perspectives. “3 Days of Jazz” takes place in Saalfelden Leogang from 22 to 24 January 2027.
Ticket sales open today, 12 October 2026. Further programme announcements will follow in the coming weeks.
