Belgium, Iceland, Sweden, USA
Teun Verbruggen - drums
Andrew D’Angelo - alto saxophone, bass clarinet
Magnus Broo - trumpet
Jozef Dumoulin - fender rhodes
Hilmar Jensson - guitar
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten - bass
BOAT’s second album is aptly titled Spinning Jenny. Drummer Teun Verbruggen’s freely improvising sextet spins single threads into a large acoustic carpet from which sounds emanate like patterns. The ensemble moves along like an unstoppable engine, expanding the sound and thinning it out—impenetrable at one point and then delicate and spherical at another. Staging a veritable acoustic challenge, the six musicians create layers of patterns, hinting at structures and almost driving them towards chaos.
