Short but nice – the Kronreith circuit

Challenging tour around Saalfelden

Difficult gravel tour. Very good physical condition required. You may have to push your bike on some sections.

The Kronreithrunde is a short but challenging gravel tour around Saalfelden, which is also signposted as a mountain bike route. It is recommended for mountain bikes in a clockwise direction; gravel bikes benefit from the opposite direction. From Saalfelden, the route first leads via Ramseiden on quiet side roads along the golf course and over beautiful gravel passages to Maria Alm.

There, the longer climb begins via Grießbachwinkel up to Riemannshöhe – a section with gradients of up to 16%, and at times even 20%, which really puts your legs to the test. If you like, you can push your bike up the steepest ramps, as the view from the top rewards you with a magnificent backdrop beneath the mighty peaks. The descent via Lichtenbergstraße finally leads back down to Saalfelden.

At 23 kilometres long and around 580 metres of elevation gain, the tour is compact but intense. About half of the route is on loose ground – perfect for those who want to experience lots of gravel, climbs and panoramic views in a small area.
