Nature & Climate in Change

A journey through time on the tracks of ice, water and change

The climate crisis is a scientific fact. But where and how is it already noticeable in the region? Together with KLAR Pinzgau (Climate Change Adaptation Region), this route was created following the traces of current change. This hike also conveys background knowledge on torrent barriers, natural hazards and the future of the forest.

"On our hike, the effects of climate change are tangibly close. My motivation for the hike is to illustrate and communicate changes in our climate." - Anna Heuberger, KLAR Manager (Development of the Climate Change Hike)

Regional climate facts:

  • The average annual temperature in the region is already 7.3°C, 1.8°C above the long-term average (1971-2000).
  • In summer, the 25°C mark above 1000 m is already reached three times as often as the long-term average.
  • Drought periods that statistically occur every 10 years now occur every 5 years.
  • The maximum daily precipitation per year is 60 mm in the long-term average. If we do nothing against climate change, the maximum daily precipitation per year will increase by 10%.

The hike is also possible independently of the offered guided tour. Simply download the published information material here and go trace hunting for the climate crisis: Handout on Nature and Climate in Change Hike
