"In the Footsteps of the Mountain Bike Pros" is a segment of the Tour de Champions in Austria's largest biking region, Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn.
This tour in Saalfelden Leogang is short but intense. Over 32.6 km, it covers a total of 1,030 meters of elevation gain. Starting from Saalfelden or Leogang, the route first heads to the Hütten district. Here, you’ll ride past the Epic Bikepark Leogang, which has hosted various Mountain Bike World Cups and World Championships on multiple occasions. Professional mountain bikers from all over the world can also be seen training here regularly. The tour continues past the Epic Bikepark Leogang and the Riders Playground into the Schwarzleotal valley. The early climb gets you up to speed right away and leads you first to the end of the Schwarzleo Valley. There, a mountain backdrop with a high-alpine feel awaits near the tree line. Soon you’ll reach the tour’s highest point at 1,470 meters. But instead of rolling straight back down the mountain, you’ll continue with gentle ups and downs toward the Asitzbahn mid-station. The slopes along the way are perfect for short stops. It’s also worth taking the short descent to the start of the DHI World Cup course. The extra elevation gain you’ll gain from this is definitely worth it. Afterward, the route follows the Dunkelkendlbach stream and passes through Pirzbichl on the way back to the starting point in Leogang.
