A Tour of Alpine Sports Diversity—A Stage of the Tour de Champions in Austria's Largest Cycling Region

The "Alpine Sports Variety Loop" is a stage of the Tour de Champions in Austria's largest biking region, Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn.

This challenging tour, with 1,560 meters of elevation gain and a distance of 73.6 kilometers, is no walk in the park. However, the ride time of about 6 hours also offers the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at the champions’ haunts in Austria’s largest biking region. Starting in Saalfelden, the route begins with a leisurely ride to Leogang. There, you’ll pass the Epic Bikepark Leogang—where sporting history has been made every year since 2010 in Mountain Bike World Cup races and World Championships. The route continues to Hochfilzen and the Biathlon World Championship Stadium. The information board on site tells the story of the venue’s history and significance. In Hochfilzen, the challenging climb toward the Reiterkogel begins, ending at 1,790 meters above sea level. Along the way, you’ll pass the Spielberghaus, which is run by the parents of local hero and multiple MTB world champion Vali Höll. From the highest point of the tour, the route descends to the Zwölferkogel World Championship Stadium in Hinterglemm, where the Alpine Ski World Championships were held in 2025 and Alpine Ski World Cup races take place regularly. You then ride back to Saalfelden via the Glemm Valley, Maishofen, and Bsuch. There, at Lake Ritzensee, you’ll also find an information board about the Nordic Park Saalfelden cross-country skiing center, whose trails run right next to the lake in winter.
