World Cup Biathlete Julia Leitinger: Why the Trail Network is Unique and Cross-Country Skiing is the Perfect Winter Sport
Julia Leitinger (28) made her World Cup debut in 2015. The former Youth and Junior Vice World Champion competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, and the trail network in Saalfelden Leogang is her training ground: "My absolute favourite is the 'Klingler Runde.' Since I usually train on challenging trails during the winter, I especially enjoy this one," she shares. "The relatively flat route is perfect for an easy training session, and the stunning panorama of the Steinernes Meer fills me with a deep sense of home."
According to Leitinger, the trail network in Saalfelden Leogang is unparalleled: "On one hand, there’s the extensive trail network connecting to Leogang, Maishofen, or Maria Alm. On the other, the Ritzensee offers a challenging trail that’s popular with professionals and advanced skiers alike. Plus, we’re privileged to have an artificial snow trail and evening lighting at the Ritzensee."
Leitinger wholeheartedly recommends cross-country skiing: "It’s a passion of mine. I believe it’s the perfect winter sport to keep the whole body fit, with minimal risk of injury. What I also love about cross-country skiing is the time spent outdoors in nature. For me, it’s clear: cross-country skiing will remain my favourite sport even after my competitive career ends."
