Under the motto “Skiing like in the good old days,” participants and visitors can look forward to an atmospheric nostalgia ski day followed by a traditional Firnfest celebration.
While historic wooden skis, authentic vintage outfits, tradition, and conviviality take center stage at the legendary Schanteilift in Saalfelden Leogang, a giant slalom race with two runs forms the sporting highlight of the event. In addition to the classic individual ranking, the focus is particularly on timing and consistency: all participants are automatically included in the consistency classification, where the goal is to repeat the time achieved in the first run as precisely as possible. The Firnkristall average time will also be determined. Prizes will furthermore be awarded to the largest registered group and the oldest competing participant.
The starting signal will be given on Saturday, March 7, at 12:00 noon, while race bib distribution begins at 9:00 a.m. in the finish area. Competitions will be held in the categories wooden skis without edges (women/men), wooden skis with edges (women/men), and “Modern Oldies.” Young nostalgia skiers will also have the opportunity to showcase their skills in dedicated junior classes.
Naturally, wooden skis call for the appropriate outfit: alongside historic skis, visitors can admire period clothing dating up to around 1970.
Registration is available online at www.nostalgie-leogang.at or via www.saalfelden-leogang.com/nostalgie-ski. The registration deadline is March 5, 2026. The entry fee for advance registration is €25 for adults and €10 for children. Late registrations are possible on the day of the event until one hour before race start for an additional fee. The entry fee includes a day ticket for the Schanteilift, a welcome drink, and a food voucher.
