Trunk
France
Delphine Joussein – flute, pedals, drums
Aymeric Avice – trumpet, pedals, drums
The back of a car, an elephant’s nasal extension or the ones for swimming? The music of French duo “Trunk” sounds similarly open-ended and evocative—a project in which both members handle the drums and operate at least 37 pedals in addition to their primary instruments. For Delphine Joussein, also at the Jazzfestival with “Sauvages Paradis” — the flute takes center stage, explored in all its blowing, sputtering, and whispering possibilities; Aymeric Avice, who also leads his own trio, “Pomme de Terre”, is primarily a trumpeter. In terms of sound and intensity, the noise of their project “Trunk” could occasionally fit right in at Wacken; yet, by virtue of the moment-generating artistry of these improvisers, it is far more at home in Saalfelden.
