Teis Semey "EN MASSE!"
Denmark, Netherlands, Korea, Portugal
Teis Semey - guitar
José Soares - alto saxophone
Jesse Schilderink - tenor saxophone
Jort Terwijn - double bass
Sun-Mi Hong - drums
The Danish guitarist and composer from the Netherlands, who stood out at the last Saalfelden Jazz Festival in the "Brainteaser Orchestra" with his intense solos, combining jazz virtuosity, rock riffs, and improvisational punk, feels misunderstood as an "angry young man of jazz," according to a journalist. "My music is rooted in community, love, and compassion," he says. "But you'd be colder than outer space if compassion didn't also make you angry. So the anger that Mr. Journalist heard was compassion." The music that this "jazz tornado" (3voor12) brings to the stage here with a "meteor shower of a band" (himself), featuring Sun-Mi Hong on drums and saxophonist Jesse Schilderink, among others, is based on "seeing places with the ears," as he puts it. "You can actually hear how the sound changes in snow, rain, sunshine, or fog. Try it! It's really fun."
