Swiss pianist Sylvie Courvoisier recently founded a trio that includes Drew Gress and Kenny Wollesen. Recorded for John Zorn’s label Tzadik last January, the group’s first album will be released in the near future. The trio covers a wide range of musical styles from highly differentiated, almost-fading solos to competitive, heated dialogues between the three instrumentalists. In this very excited encounter, the musicians express their ingenuity both in spontaneous improvisations and in sound fabrics that slowly advance towards a culmination point.
