Pinzgau Folk Museum

In 1964, the market town of Saalfelden acquired Schloss Ritzen with the intention of establishing a local history museum within its historic walls. In the following years, the building was renovated in stages, expanded, and the various departments were created with great idealism and loving attention to detail by the museum association. Today, the museum, as one of the most significant in the country, presents in 24 departments many valuable exhibits about the history and life of the region, areas of religious folk art, mineralogy, and geology.

In the museum, several major thematic areas are presented around the history of Saalfelden: a large nativity scene exhibition, sacred treasures with ethnographic exhibits, the Roman wall and ceiling paintings from Saalfelden, and the exhibition of Gottfried Salzmann. Changing special exhibitions.
