TONspur concert IV - Kapelle SO&SO
“No written word can equal the intensity of music” (Damaris Wieser, German lyricist)
“It’s a great advantage if the 6 musicians starting a band have known each other for a long time, and aren’t somehow simply cast together. It makes it much easier especially when it comes to making music together. You know the sound of your colleagues, you have an idea what phrasing they will use, and you can gauge immediately how best you can blend in with the overall sound of the group….” Bartholomäus Natter, trumpeter in the legendary Holstuonarmusigbigbandclub (HMBC) puts it nicely when it comes to explaining what characterises the success of Kapelle So&So: Their earthy, energetic sound coupled with a musical coolness and knife sharp ensemble playing has thrilled audiences in Bavaria and Austria ever since their first guesthouse tour in 2017.
They play (and sing) predominantly their own compositions, but also perform skilfully arranged classics from polkas and waltzes through to reggae, the "Allegro Rondo" by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, or part of Haydn’s trumpet concerto. The 6 musicians therefore had no qualms when it came to covering Bob Marley’s album “Legend” (a real reggae classic), and did so in their traditional dance music lineup. (Stofferl Well from the Biermösl Blosn was also one of the players). They skilfully transcend all sorts of boundaries that try to define various musical genres.
Kapelle So&So, originally a Bavarian-Pinzgau quartet that first performed as a sextet in the AsitzBräu proved their diversity, virtuosity, and endless, contagious enjoyment at the 4th TONspur 2021 concert. This year Joschi Öttl joins them for the first time. He has already has left his musical traces here as the Ensemble 013 Flügelhorn player and as a TONspur workshop tutor.
Ensemble: Johann Auer – button accordion, voice
Michael Graf – guitar, voice
Joschi Öttl – Flügelhorn, voice
Sebastian Höglauer – Flügelhorn, voice
Stefan Huber – tuba, voice
Manuel Haitzmann – Basstrompete, voice
