Ozymandias, of Coal Mines and Ghost Cities; an animated film based on the photographic series, accompanied by live music for oboe and electronics (2018)
What remains of great dreams when they lose their future? In Ozymandias, of Coal Mines and Ghost Cities, Markus Sepperer takes us into the desert landscape of Ordos. Amid coal mines, futuristic buildings and an almost deserted city, a surreal world of images unfolds, where visions of progress and decay exist side by side. The live music for oboe and electronics merges with the images, bringing the empty spaces almost to life.
With Shift::Split for cor anglais and live electronics, this dialogue continues: sound is divided, shifted and transformed electronically. The result is a concert exploring power and grandiose visions, landscapes shaped by human hands – and the moment when great visions turn into ghost cities.
