Tom is ten and different from the other children. He doesn't like change, things that are red and anything loud quickly becomes too much for him. His specialty is space. His favorite thing to do is run around in his astronaut suit. When his mother has to go to China, Tom and his siblings have to move to Grandma and Grandpa's house in the country for six weeks. A disaster for Tom. But to make sure he makes it anyway, his mother gives him a logbook and suggests he sees the trip to his grandparents as a trial Mars mission. “If you can do Grandma and Grandpa,” his mother assures him, “then you can definitely do Mars too.”
