Keravec/Mazurek/König

Erwan Keravec – bag pipe
Rob Mazurek – trumpet
Lukas König – drums

Since Rufus Harley’s “Bagpipe Blues” entered the scene in 1965, the bagpipe has rarely taken center stage in jazz. Enter Erwan Keravec, a Bretonian master of the “cornemuses” who, for nearly twenty years—notably with his *Urban Pipes* project—has been turning heads in the French music scene. Whether performing solo in a museum, in duos with Mats Gustafsson or Hamid Drake in clubs, or in ensembles playing the music of Terry Riley or Philip Glass in concert halls, he garners praise wherever he goes. As “Jazz Magazine” puts it: “music of austere violence, at the same time grandiose, fundamentally modern, and often radical, yet never cut off from its roots.” The 52-year-old is now making his debut in Saalfelden, appearing alongside American trumpeter Rob Mazurek and Austrian drumming internationalist Lukas König.
