Bergfilmfestival: MESSNER 2.0: „SIMON MESSNER – AU
DE 2026; Directed by Veronika Kaserer; Featuring Simon Messner, Martin Sieberer, Hanspeter Eisendle, Sabine Stehle, Magdalena Maria Messner, Alexander Huber and Oswald Ölz; Duration: 88 min.; German language
In the summer of 2025, Simon Messner travels to Pakistan’s Karakoram range to climb Chumik Kangri, a previously unclimbed 6,754-metre peak. Now an experienced mountaineer and a father himself, he reflects on his relationship with his own father, Reinhold Messner. Simon chose to become a mountaineer against his father’s wishes, and the emotional distance between them has left its mark on him.
During the expedition, questions of personal risk and the responsibilities of fatherhood come to the fore: What do we pass on to the next generation – and what do we want to do differently? Between the summit and family life, the journey becomes a search for his own path in life.
In the Karakoram, Simon Messner faces not only an unclimbed peak, but also questions of risk, responsibility and his own path as a father.
