Alex Kristan 50 Shades of Schmäh
Alex Kristan has hit the big 5-0 — or as the optimist in him likes to say: “The first third of life is over.” And since his thirst for action is still greater than his nightly urge to pee, he’s marking the occasion by gifting himself a brand-new solo show. Because when you suddenly find yourself part of the 50+ crowd — the so-called Best Agers — there's only one remedy for leaden legs and silver hair: a healthy dose of “Schmäh” (Austrian charm and wit).
They say 50 is the new 30 — but does that only apply to speed limits in town? Even if 10 p.m. is the new midnight, that doesn’t mean your skincare routine has to switch from Nivea to Voltaren. It's still worth buying long-life milk. Diet plans, hair dye, teeth whitening — that’s for pop-up seniors who treat fermented cabbage as a detox cure. His motto, however, is: "Being sensible is like being dead — just earlier," and he’s here to bring the cheeky rascals (Rotzpipn) back to life.
Right at that tipping point in life — somewhere between looking well-groomed and being groomed by others — you start to wonder: Was everything really better in the past? And if so, why wasn’t it? Nearsightedness is now compensated by foresight, and as long as the cake costs more than the candles on it, you’re definitely not old.
Alex Kristan’s alter egos, of course, join him on this journey and offer their usual sharp-witted advice when it comes to the truly important questions in a man’s life in his so-called prime. It’s a start-up into a new life phase — a game of Gout or Truth. And the truth is: he’s really only 42 — net, excluding VAT.
Growing older is actually something quite beautiful. Especially when you consider the alternative.
