This varied Bike & Hike tour combines a leisurely cycle ride with an adventurous hike to the Stoissengraben waterfall.
From Saalfelden town centre, cycle for around 6 kilometres along the Tauern Cycle Route (towards Lofer) to the Stoissengraben car park. From there, the route continues along the Buchweißbach stream on an easily navigable gravel track. After about 2.5 kilometres, you’ll reach a bike parking area. The hike begins from here.
The hiking trail follows a narrow natural path through the shady Stoissengraben gorge alongside the Buchweißbach stream. This adventurous route leads to the highlight of the tour: the waterfall in the Stoissengraben, which plunges into the depths amidst a small rocky setting and provides a pleasant way to cool off on hot days. If you wish, you can also continue up the waterfall hiking path to the Peter-Wiechenthaler Hut in around 3.5 hours. (Recommended only for experienced, sure-footed walkers in good physical condition.)
Please note: This hike is only recommended for people 140 cm or taller. The final stretch to the waterfall in particular follows a narrow path and requires sure-footedness and careful attention. Sturdy footwear is recommended. A via ferrata set is recommended for children. There is no mobile phone reception along the route!
