Whether professional or complete beginner, young or old – the Nordic Park Saalfelden, located on the Ritzensee, is the home for cross-country skiers. The 150 km long network of trails in the region offers everything: from easy for beginners to challenging for professionals. Those who want to try their hand at biathlon can also target the targets. Biathlon taster courses are available for children and adults. Mark Hauser, teacher at the Nordic Ski School Saalfelden and cross-country skiing and biathlon coach, explains the appeal of the Nordic Park: “As a young father of two daughters aged 4 and 6, it is important to me that my kids enjoy cross-country skiing. In the Nordic Park Saalfelden with its waves, jumps and steep curves, this is the case. They learn playful cross-country skiing and improve their coordination skills in the beautiful winter landscape of Saalfelden Leogang.”

As beautiful as a cross-country ski trip through the snowy winter landscape is, the Nordic Park has much more to offer: Once the Ritzensee is frozen, it transforms into a natural ice area and skaters have free rein. Tobogganers can run down the Gugelhupf with their sleds. Less fast, but no less beautiful is a winter hike – for example to the forest swing in the Kollingwald. A tour around the Ritzensee with great views of the Steinerne Sea and the Leoganger Steinberge is also recommended. Or how about a leisurely horse-drawn sleigh ride around the lake and through the deep snow-covered forest? If you are a sports enthusiast, it is best to treat yourself to a good meal afterwards: either in the restaurant Ritzensee, coffee and homemade cakes in the Klampfererhof or fine Alpine cuisine in the Ritzenhof Hotel und SPA am See.

For families, there are two very popular places to go: in the Fun & Snow Park, young and old can try cross-country skiing, and more experienced can venture into the steep bends, the small jumps and the slalom course. A really nice family adventure is the Nordic Puzzle Rally: From the Nordic Park you start around the Ritzensee and at seven stations you have to solve seven puzzles. Participants enter the correct answers on a map. With the right answer, you will receive a gift at the tourist office Saalfelden and Leogang. The station course in the Fun & Snow Park as well as the Nordic Puzzle Rally are unique in all of Austria.
 
The idea for the rally comes from Mark Hauser: “Most children don’t want to run from A to B, but the desire to run around the Ritzensee is there for many. With the riddle rally, this route becomes child’s play, because it provides variety.”

 
Nordic Park Experience: Green Event in the White Winter Landscape

Nordic by Nature: On two winter days – 21 January and 18 February 2024 – the Nordic Park Experience rises again. It’s all about the Nordic lifestyle. Highlights include the Kids Winter Games, the Schneebar with many Nordic specialities and the chill-out area with DJ sound to relax. Two days packed with fun. The Nordic Park Experience is once again a “Green Event Salzburg”. This means that the event is organised as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. So drinks and food come from the region, garbage is avoided as much as possible.

Luggage transport and free by bus: without a car to Saalfelden Leogang
