Local success at the 2025 European Beard Championship in Saalfelden Leogang

At the Beard European Championship in Saalfelden Leogang, more than 150 participants from over 10 nations competed across three main categories and 21 subcategories – and the best were crowned. The regional beard artists were particularly successful, celebrating titles and podium finishes.

This past weekend, Saalfelden Leogang played host to the European Beard Championship. After the 2015 World Beard Championship, the region once again became a stage for top European performances – and a proud host to local winners. A total of 156 participants from more than ten countries, including Germany, France, Belgium, and Israel, took part in the competition.

The beards were judged in three main categories: moustaches, chin and cheek beards, and full beards. In 21 subcategories, factors such as length, density, shape, grooming, and styling determined the winners. A seven-member jury strictly adhered to the international rules set by the Association of German Beard Clubs (VDB).

Two European Titles for the Pinzgau Region

For the local participants, the 2025 European Championship turned into a true triumph: with two European titles and two additional podium finishes, they impressively demonstrated that the most beautiful and creative beards in Europe can also be found right at home. Leading the way was Justin Rasser from Rauris, who claimed the European title in the “Full Beard – Styled Moustache” category. After finishing fourth at the World Championship, he now celebrated a widely applauded victory.

Franz Zehentner from Leogang – chairman of the Leogang music band and co-organizer of the event – also shone on stage. He secured the European title in the “Full Beard – Business Beard” category, bringing double pride to his hometown.

Lukas Schmiderer from Zell am See showed style and class in the “Full Beard – Verdi” category, where he earned the title of Vice European Champion. Franz Eder from Leogang rounded out the local success story, taking an outstanding second place in the “Full Beard – Garibaldi” category.

These achievements were part of a strong overall showing that also saw international participants stand out – including Guillaume Renouf (France) in the Verdi category, Gigi Scivero (Italy) in the over 20 cm chin beard category, and Willi Preuß (Germany) in the “Natural Full Beard over 60 cm” category.

Saalfelden Leogang Confirms Its Status as a Center of Beard Culture

Big beards, big atmosphere: the joint event organized by the Leogang Music Band, Saalfelden Leogang Tourism, the East Bavarian Beard and Moustache Club, and the Association of German Beard Clubs turned the gymnasium of the Leogang Middle School into a festive stage, with around 300 visitors, fan clubs, and companions in attendance. The music band, regional culinary delights, and a cheerful atmosphere accompanied the exciting competition all the way through the awards ceremony and the evening entertainment provided by the Saltriver Band.

With an international field of participants, strong performances from local contenders, and an enthusiastic audience, Saalfelden Leogang has once again confirmed its reputation as a European center of beard culture.
