A Perfect Summer Day in Saalfelden Leogang

Family Fun, Outdoor Action or Pure Indulgence

Summer guests in Saalfelden Leogang definitely never have to worry about one thing – how to fill a vacation day with unforgettable experiences. Making children happy, enjoying outdoor adventures or simply spending time indulging in the good things in life – the region offers countless possibilities for all of this. Here are three examples of how to spend a perfect summer day in this beautiful destination.

The Perfect Summer Day for Families: Treasure Hunts, Sensory Parks and Cooling Off at the Outdoor Pool

Keeping children entertained is easy in Saalfelden Leogang. For a varied summer day, the best way to start after a hearty breakfast is by heading to the Asitz mountain. Thanks to the Guest Mobility Ticket, guests can travel there comfortably and free of charge by bus or the Loigom-Soifen Shuttle. The Asitzbahn or Steinbergbahn gondolas take visitors up to the mountain station, where kids can begin the treasure hunt along Leo’s Play Trail. While the children solve puzzles and play at the different stations, parents can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the Steinernes Meer and the Leogang Steinberge mountains. Along the way, they can also relax at the “Naturkino” viewing area. Before heading down to the middle station, everyone should take a thrilling ride on the Sound Toboggan Run.

Once at the Asitz middle station, the “Sinne-Park” awaits with more than 30 interactive adventure stations and the crystal-clear reservoir lake “Stille Wasser”. After plenty of exploring, visitors can treat themselves to a delicious Kaiserschmarrn at the Stöcklalm mountain hut. With the Saalfelden Leogang Card, two gondola rides up and down the mountain per person and day are included during summer and autumn.

After such an eventful day, there are two perfect ways to cool down: either with handcrafted ice cream from Misssi-Eis – where frozen cocktails are also available for mom and dad – or by visiting the outdoor pools in Saalfelden and Leogang or the natural swimming area at Ritzensee. Admission to all three is free for holders of the Saalfelden Leogang Card.

The Perfect Summer Day for Outdoor Enthusiasts: From Alpine Adventures to Mountain Bike Thrills

Whether heading high into the mountains or racing downhill, Saalfelden Leogang is all about getting outdoors and enjoying nature. The region offers the perfect outdoor activity for everyone looking to spend a summer day in the fresh air. Hiking enthusiasts can choose from numerous beautiful routes – from gentle grassy mountains to rugged rocky peaks, from challenging alpine tours in the Steinernes Meer and the Leogang Steinberge to easy valley hikes for families.

Meanwhile, mountain bikers can put on their helmets and hit the trails in the Epic Bikepark Leogang on the Asitz mountain, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. On perfectly maintained lines and trails – totaling an impressive 120 kilometers within Austria’s largest bike region, Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn – riders can courageously tackle downhill runs. Jumps, tight turns, rocks and roots are just some of the challenges waiting along the way. The best part: beginners can prepare for their trail adventures in the large practice area known as the Riders Playground.

For those who would rather glide down the mountain than ride it at the end of an active day, the Flying Fox XXL is the ultimate experience. One of the world’s longest and fastest steel zip lines takes guests soaring into the valley at speeds of up to 130 km/h. Starting at the Stöcklalm, the flight stretches over 1.6 kilometers at a height of 143 meters.

The Perfect Summer Day for Food Lovers and Connoisseurs: E-Bike Tours, Fine Dining and Cultural Highlights

In Saalfelden Leogang, enjoying life to the fullest comes naturally. One relaxing yet active option is an E-bike gourmet tour. Lasting around five hours, this tour is also ideal for beginners. Along the 30-kilometer route, participants stop at various local producers to discover the region’s diverse products – from premium schnapps to honey.

Alternatively, visitors can choose the “Forest Bathing on the Asitz” hiking trail with its 14 immersive stations. After returning, a relaxing break in one of the modern spa facilities at the region’s beautiful wellness hotels is highly recommended.

The evening can then be rounded off with excellent food and/or a memorable concert. Saalfelden Leogang offers plenty of both. A total of 19 Gault&Millau toques are spread across seven restaurants, while two restaurants have even earned Michelin stars. A special highlight this year: the Kirchenwirt celebrates its 700th anniversary. But even without Michelin stars or awards, visitors can enjoy authentic Pinzgau cuisine in many places – whether at a traditional alpine hut or a cozy local inn.

For a musical finale, the region’s colorful cultural program provides numerous opportunities. From August 20 to 23, the internationally renowned Jazzfestival Saalfelden takes place. Additionally, every Thursday from June 25 to August 6, bands and musicians from various genres perform as part of the “TONspuren am Asitz” concert series. As part of the ALM:KULTUR event series, weekly art and cultural projects are held on the surrounding alpine pastures from July to September – ranging from concerts to creative workshops.
