As part of the ‘Stoabergmarsch24’, 120 participants took on a 24-hour hike through the mountains of Pinzgau and the Tyrolean lowlands.
53 kilometres, 5300 metres in altitude, of which 2900 were ascents and 2400 descents, and 24 hours: 120 participants took part in the seventh edition of the Stoaberg March last weekend. Saalfelden Leogang was the starting point for this exceptional format this time.
On Saturday morning, a colourful group of many local participants, as well as guests from Germany, Holland, Portugal and even Russia, set off on the day-and-night journey across mountains, alpine pastures and villages from Saalfelden Leogang, with the royal stage to the Passauer Hütte, into the Saalachtal valley in Salzburg and to the finish in St. Jakob in the PillerseeTal valley in Tyrol. ‘We were very lucky with the weather. The rain only caught us briefly once. The group showed great team spirit. At the Stoaberg March, it is always important to us that the fitter participants show consideration for the weaker ones. This is the only way for 120 participants to get their money's worth,’ says Markus Kogler, the mountain guide responsible for the Stoarberg March, with satisfaction.
Long-distance hike is a green event
The ‘Stoabergmarsch24’ has carried the ‘Green Event Salzburg’ seal of approval since last year and was once again organised as a green event with this in mind. The focus was on the possibility of travelling by public transport, waste avoidance and the use of regional products.
