TONspur III - Hans Theessink & Big Daddy Wilson
“Life is a song – sing it!“ (Mother Teresa)
Originally from the Netherlands but now living in Vienna, Harold Hans Thessink is an institution when it comes to blues and roots music, with more than 8000 concerts under his belt within 50 years. His sonorous voice and unique style of guitar playing are what distinguish him. Described as a “hellishly good guitarist” by the legendary American guitarist Bo Diddley, he has released more than 30 albums, a song book, a teaching video, and a DVD.
For 25 years Big Daddy Wilson has been travelling the world, sharing his love of blues with people. In 2018 he embarked on an anniversary tour of Europe, impressing his audiences with an energetic stage show. In the meantime he has released 12 albums, his album “Neckbone Stew” was awarded the Deutsche Schallplattenkritik prize in 2017. “A neckbone stew can be a culinary delight for eyes, nose, and palate, but it always depends on the ingredients and how they are mixed. Big Daddy Wilson’s album »Neckbone Stew« is also a pleasure on the ears, as for his acoustic stew he has chosen exactly the right ingredients, seasoned them perfectly, creating a taste that impresses your from the outset. Blues, gospel, roots, soul, funk, and reggae combine together to form an irresistible acoustic mix. Even after the last spoonful, you are sure to be asking for more. This is a gourmet menu from an award-winning chef.” (Für die Jury: Karl Leitner)
This year, following a evening ball event that they were both at, the tremendous blues musicians are going on tour together with their current CD “Zahltag” (payday). He “really enjoyed singing and performing with Wilson. We had a ball! Wilson and I had chosen songs for the session, with some old, some new, some borrowed. We had a lot of fun cooking up our special musical casserole…” says Hans Theessink. In a similar way, Big Daddy Wilson says “I’ve wanted to work with Hans for many years. So, I’m happy and proud that we recorded this duo album together. It was one of the nicest experiences I have had as an artist.”
Hans Theessink and Big Daddy Wilson will be performing the result of their collaboration on the TONspur stage on 27.07.2023. A concert evening sure to get the pulse of every blues fan racing.
