ORF Doku: “Traditionally Experimental - Jazzfestival Saalfelden”
For the 45th time this year, Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer in Salzburg's Pinzgau region is the meeting place for the international jazz scene. Founded by Pinzgau music fans who found the journey to other festivals too far at some point, the Jazzfestival Saalfelden has developed over the decades from a niche concert series on the outskirts of the village into one of the most important festivals of contemporary music. Lukas Möschl traces the history of a festival that has had to reinvent itself time and again due to financial challenges. He also traces the appeal of the festival today, which, with numerous stages throughout the town, has become an annual highlight not only for the local population, but also for the musicians who find Saalfelden an ideal place for their musical experiments year after year.
