Leonhardiritt Leogang
At the Leogang Leonhardiritt, St. Leonhard and St. Barbara are depicted during the ride. Leonhard was originally considered the patron saint of those in chains - the prisoners. After the Reformation, he became the patron saint of pets, as the chains with which he was depicted were interpreted as livestock chains.
Barbara is one of the fourteen helpers in need, and her behavior in the face of persecution and death is seen as a symbol of defense and steadfastness in faith. This is indicated by her depiction with her attribute, the tower of steadfastness. Barbara is the patron saint of miners and thus holds a special significance in Leogang's mining history.
Being part of the Leonhardiritt in Leogang is something special for every rider and every visitor.
Consciously, the tradition is lived in Leogang and is celebrated on the feast day of St. Leonhard on November 6 by riding.
One can feel a very special atmosphere, just like 70 years ago when a handful of farmers and miners participated in this Flurritt for St. Leonhard.
