E-Bike Paradise Saalfelden Leogang
The bike region Saalfelden Leogang is famous for Bikepark Leogang, one of the largest bikeparks in the Alps, as well as for regularly hosting international top-events like the UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup or the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. What is easily forgotten though, is that the Austrian bike Mecca also has plenty to offer outside of the bikepark. A whole host of marked tours and several charging stations in the valley and at surrounding huts make Saalfelden Leogang the perfect destination for e-bikers and e-mountain bikers.
Thanks to 13 E-Bike charging stations, a huge network of trails, many cycling paths and dedicated bike hotels, Saalfelden Leogang is a true paradise for two-wheeled holidays. The best way to experience the region are the tours specifically designed for e-bikes, such as the Saalfelden Tour, a 37 km-long ride that includes a climb of 1000 vertical meters and takes bikers along some of the most spectacular view points around Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer.
Those who enjoy challenging, natural trails should embark on the E-Bike Trail XXL Tour. The tour starts with a gondola ride up to the peak of the Asitz from where it heads along the Schönleiten Trail towards Saalbach. The tour then follows the Wurzeltrail and Kohlmais Trail past the Panoramaalm and Spielberghaus before heading down the Wetterkreuztrail. From the Rosswaldhütte, riders continue to the Reichkendkopf and along the Hochalmtrail towards Lengau and Jausern. Taking the Schönleitbahn chairlift from Jausern, the tour then heads back along the Schönleitentrail towards the top of Asitz from where riders follow the brand-new Matzalm Trail back to Leogang. With a total distance of 66km and nearly 3000 vertical meters of ascending and descending done mostly on Singletrails, the E-Bike Trail XXL Tour is a true highlight for advanced e-mountain bikers.
Those who want to experience the entire region can cycle around the iconic Leoganger Steinberge on the Steinberg Tour. Following the different valleys, the nearly 70km-long tour starts in Saalfelden and takes cyclists past Weißbach to Lofer before heading back to Leogang via Waidring and Hochfilzen. Several e-bike charging stations along the way ensure that there is always enough juice in the tank to enjoy the picturesque views of the iconic mountains of the Salzburgerland.
More detailed descriptions of the tours, as well as a number of additional tours like the culinary Genuss Tour, which leads cyclists past numerous farm shops in the region, can be found on saalfelden-leogang.com/en/region-experience/bike. Upon request, all tours can be accompanied and led by qualified guides.
To make your biking holiday absolutely perfect, special bike hotels such as Salzburger Hof, Rupertus, Bacher, Riederalm, Ritzenhof, Puradies and Hotel Der Löwe and competent bike shops such as Sport Mitterer or Sport 2000 Simon are at your service.
