Saalfelden Leogang bears the Austrian Eco-label, respACT and the Climate Alliance
Saalfelden Leogang is the third destination in Austria to be awarded the Austrian Eco-label for destinations. This represents a milestone in the development of a sustainably orientated region. This independent seal of quality assesses a wide range of measures in the areas of sustainability, waste management, mobility and resource management. 
The region also participates in respACT (Saalfelden Leogang as the first regional tourism organisation) and the Climate Alliance (Saalfelden Leogang as the first tourism association in SalzburgerLand).

 

Leoganger Bergbahnen cable car company have harnessed the power of plants
-    Leoganger Bergbahnen is the first cable car company in Austria to use HVO100 fuel for its entire vehicle fleet, which is made from renewable raw materials and saves up to 90% CO2. 
-    In addition, 100% of the electricity required has been sourced from regional energy sources, such as hydropower, since 2018. 
-    The Leoganger Bergbahnen cable car company has been using district heating from the nearby biomass heating plant since 2006. This co-heating partnership was set up in cooperation with neighbouring hotels. 
-    The middle station, the workshop of the snow groomers and the Stöcklalm mountain restaurant, are all heated via the heat recovery of the drive motors at the Asitzbahn cable car lift. 
-    62,000 kWh electricity savings through implementation of innovative technology in the new construction of the Asitzkogel lift
-    holders of the Saalfelden Leogang Card, which our guests receive free of charge when checking into any of our partner accommodations, can use two free daily cable car return tickets incl. bike transport on the Leoganger Bergbahnen cable cars in summer. The cable car company will be open for hikers until the start of the winter season. In winter, one return ticket for pedestrians is included per stay.

 

Saalfelden Leogang takes care
-    The guided hike “Nature and Climate in transition” offers interesting insights into the changes affecting nature and climate. The aim is to show visible and tangible effects and to create an understanding for our future challenges.
-    Saalfelden Leogang attaches great importance to sustainable singletrail-building. The Knappen-Trail, the Matzalm-Trail, the Schwarzleo-Trail and the Forsthof-Trail for example, were made entirely by hand – no heavy machinery involved – from natural materials and wooden constructions (North Shore elements). Fans of singletrails will be in for a new treat this year, when the hand-built AlteSchmiede Trail opens. It will offer cyclists of all ages plenty of fun over 3.5 kilometres.
-    At the Epic Bikepark Leogang, the motto is "Keep the Epic Bikepark clean." They organise “Clean the trail days” to address the topic of avoiding litter in the mountains. 
-    28% of all overnight stays are in Eco-label accommodations. 
-    Many of our events are "green events" that focus on energy efficiency, waste avoidance and environmentally friendly travel for guests. These include, the regionality fair Saalfelden (on 14 April 2024), the Nordic Park Experience in Winter and the ALM:KULTUR event series in summer.
-    Some 70 % of all farms are organic farms. The 'ECHT.GSUND.GUAD.’ (authentic. healthy. delicious.) seal of quality makes the quality of local products easily apparent at a glance. 
-    The local farmers also work closely with the region's award-winning restaurants (5 restaurants with a total of 14 toques from Gault&Millau) and supply them with produce. Recently, even high-quality organic saffron has been cultivated in Leogang.
-    Tipp: There is even an e-bike culinary tour. Here you cycle from direct marketer to direct marketer, visiting their farm shops and tasting their products.

 

Getting here is easy and environmentally friendly
Getting to Saalfelden Leogang is easy, comfortable and above all sustainable. There are three train stations in  Saalfelden Leogang. From the train station, take the bus (public transport is free with the Saalfelden Leogang Card). Alternatively, you can book a Loigom Soifen Shuttle On-Demand. The shuttle augments the existing route network by offering an on-demand service with Mercedes eVitos and serves numerous stops. Guests can also hire electric cars at hotels. There are numerous e-charging stations in the whole region. Saalfelden Leogang is therefore also the ideal stop for any e-car-road trip.
