Mountain running world champions Petro Mamo and Valentina Belotti will be taking part in the 5th Asitzberg run on 15.9.13 in Leogang
The Asitz Peak Mountain Run in Leogang will be classed as part of the Mountain Running Grand Prix for the first time this year by the IAAF and will see the current Mountain Running World Champion Petro Mamo of Eritrea and the current runner-up and 2009 World Champion Valentina Belotti from Italy take to the starting line.
Following the reclassification, numerous top international athletes have registered for the event. These include Anders Kleist from Sweden, Julien Rancon from France, Gabriele Abate and Emanuele Manzi from Italy, winner of the Grand Prix in Arco Emma Clayton from England and Austria’s top mountain runner of the last few years, Simon Lechleitner.
“Our aim for this year is to attract around 20 top athletes from at least 10 nations to Leogang. We would like to see a mixed field of top local runners and international athletes. The Mountain Run in Austria is now a tradition and highly regarded on the mountain running scene. We want our Asitz Summit Mountain Run to be the flagship event,” says Stefan Pühringer from Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH of the development of the Leogang mountain event.
As the only mountain run in Austria with WMRA (World Mountain Running Association) and IAAF status (International Association of Athletics Federations), the event is highly regarded both nationally and internationally. Registrations are now being accepted via www.fitlike.at or www.asitzberglauf.com until Wednesday 11.09.2013 at 12:00; late entries will be accepted up to 1 hour before the start.
