Contemporary Art in the public sphere –
Saalfelden Leogang presents Robert Montgomery

03.04.2015

On the 9th of May 2015, the Scottish artist Robert Montgomery, in cooperation with Saalfelden Leogang, unveiled his first public installation in Austria. The artist is now one of the most important contemporary representatives of conceptual art in the field of text and image and is on a par with renowned artists such as Jenny Holzer and Lawrence Weiner. In the post-situationist tradition, Robert Montgomery transforms his poetry into images: burning text sculptures, recycled sunlight installations or minimalist black billboards. His political and melancholic lyrics describe the space surrounding the interpersonal relationships in a highly sensitive way. Site-specific installations penetrate the space to allow both the room and the visitor to become part of the work of art. The poetic interventions by the internationally renowned artist have been exhibited worldwide and are represented in major collections and museums.

 Project schedule and press accreditation

This spring, the artist will commence artistic dialogue with the region Saalfelden Leogang. The artwork will then be installed at a carefully selected place in line of sight of the Stone Sea in May 2015. The artistic development process and discourse with the region, the search for the right location and the final text of the most recent work by Montgomery can be followed on the blog www.searock-songlines.com from March 18th 2015. Here, history and culture of the region will be discussed in detail and put in the context of the future work of art. As of April 2015, the production process of the work can be seen in words and pictures there.

A vernissage on site in Saalfelden Leogang and a live broadcast of the unveiling of the artwork online and at the Epicentro Art in Berlin will take place on the 9th of May, 2015.
