Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer is a town in the austrian region of Salzburg and is the main place of the Saalach valley in Pinzgau. The town is part of the district capital of Zell am See and lies about 14 km to the north of it. With 16.046 inhabitants (state from the 1st of January) Saalfelden is the town of the district of Zell am See richest in population.
Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer lies at 744m on the sea level and embraces about 118 km2. The biggest share of the municipal area includes the basin of Saalfelden, which lies between:
- the Steinernen Meer in the north
- the Leogang Steinbergen and the Biberg in the west
- as well as the Hochkönig massif and the Dientener mountains in the east.
