9th Ski marathon in Saalfelden

From 6th til 7th February 2016

9th Ski Marathon Saalfelden: Lentsch and Uzick took the victory

Perfectly groomed trails, sunshine and more than 300 cross-country skiers made the 9th Ski Marathon, from Feb. 6th to 7th 2016, an experience for young and old.

At 10:30 am the participants started in three different categories (21 km, 42 km and the team event) in a mass start in Saalfelden. The distance between Maria Alm and Saalfelden urged all participants to their limits, even though the conditions where great.

On Saturday at the Mini Skimarathon there were a total of 77 children lined up at the start and on Sunday 240 adults from 19 nations. The professional and amateur athletes came from Germany, Austria, Finland, Ireland, Russia, USA, Spain, Norway, Czech, Brazil etc.

Peter Brunner from Austria and Victoria Carl from Germany won the 21 km half marathon distance. Winner in the category 42 km distance were the tyrolean Urban Lentsch and Liudmila Uzick from Russia. The 21 year-old Urban Lentsch was thrilled: "It was just cool. We were a very strong group and I fought until the end. I put my last energy in the final sprint and it took me to 1st place!"

Marco Pointner, the CEO of Saalfelden Leogang Touristik, also participated at this years Ski Marathon. Pointner: "We are glad that the 9th Skimarathon Saalfelden could take place after a break of two years. With this event, we have once again demonstrated our nordic competence in the region of Saalfelden Leogang. Participants from over 19 nations are a confirmation of the commitment of all parties, who deserve a special thank you."

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all contributors and sponsors for the great organisation of the race weekend!

Marco Pointner, der Geschäftsführer der Saalfelden Leogang Touristik, war dieses Jahr selbst am Start und absolvierte die 21km Strecke . Pointner dazu: “Wir sind froh, dass der 9.
