Performance - "The Snow Queen"
5th until 28th February 2015, 5.30 p.m.
A winter wonderland for families
In February 2015, the Salzburg Theatre ecce is staging an inclusive project for the whole family, The Snow Queen will open in a heated circus tent for 400 persons, near the Talstation of the Leoganger Asitzbahn in Saalfelden-Leogang. It includes live music, acting and acrobatics. There will be 12 performances on the programme.
A fairytale about flowers which blossom in the winter and about the fact, that evil sometimes wears a beautiful mask. A tale about the recognition that the most important things cannot be bought with money. And a tale about running till the end of the world to save a friend. One thing the spindly H.C. Andersen already knew at the age of 14: He wanted to work at the Royal Theatre in Kopenhagen and so he set off, with just 13 Reichstaler in his pocket. He found his way, but differently than expected: he became not an actor, singer or dancer, but the greatest storyteller of all times. The fairytale, which was dramatized by Russian writer Jewgenij Schwarz, was adapted for a movie for the first time in 1966.
Tickets are on sale from november 10th at the ticket offices (Tourism Association offices Saalfelden and Leogang and the Leogang cable cars).

One wintery evening Gerda´s grandmother is visited by an unfriendly stranger: The rich and distinguished Kommerzienrat desperately wants to have grandmother´s roses, which blossom in the winter, in order to make profit by selling them. But she strongly refuses, because these roses are a present from her subtenant, the storyteller. The stranger then calls for revenge und rushes off to complain to his mistress, the Snow Queen. Shortly afterwards the Snow Queen herself appears and wants to take Kai with her. When Kai defends himself, the Queen kisses him and the boy´s heart turns into a lump of ice.
A little later Kai is kidnapped and Gerda goes in search of her brother. A pair of ravens, Karl and Klara, tell her that Kai has possibly become princess Elsa´s bridegroom. However, Elsa´s husband is not Kai, but Klaus. The royal couple have already heard about Elsa´s search and provide her with a golden coach, to get her safely to the Snow Queen´s palace. The King, Elsa´s father, is forced by the evil Kommerzienrat to incarcerate Gerda, but, with the help of the royal couple, and also the storyteller, the girl is able to escape. In order to stop Gerda the Kommerzienrat employs a band of robbers to capture the golden coach. When the daughter of the robbers´captain wants to keep Gerda as a playmate, the Kommerzienrat instructs one of the robbers to kill Gerda. At night this guy sneaks into the robber´s cave, but he turns out to be the disguised storyteller, and frees the girl. The captain´s daughter catches them on their escape, but finally she softens and gives Gerda a talking reindeer that knows the way to the Snow Queen´s palace.
When Gerda arrives at the palace, the Snow Queen is on her way to stop spring. Meanwhile Kai´s task is to put together the word “Eternity” from ice splinters. At first Kai, inwardly frozen, denies to come with Gerda, but he thaws, when he is hugged by his crying sister. She tells him of home and they want to set off, when suddenly the Snow Queen comes home and tries to stop them. In vain, because Gerda has lost her fear and Kai his cold heart.
News of Kai´s return spread quickly, and grandmother happily embraces her grandchildren.
